Syntax Coloring
You can modify the following preferences on the Preferences → IDL → Syntax Coloring preferences page:

Set this preference to the syntax element you wish to set a color for and then use the Color button at the right to select a new color. You can also set the background color for specific syntax elements by unchecking the "Use editor background color" box and then clicking on the "Background color" button. You can also set bold and italic settings for syntax elements.

Set this preference to select your background color for the entire editor window here. First uncheck use system default to then invoke the color table.

Use system default checked (on). Uncheck to set.

This pane serves as a place to view your color choices (elements are updated as you select them).
